Even Though I Ate The Cake (2022) is a 16-minute dark comedy short film written and directed by Liese Kuhn, produced by Frikken Films. Set in the emotionally charged confines of a bathroom at a mutual friend’s bachelorette party, the story follows two women—played by Mikkie-Dené le Roux and Electra Hartman—who strike up an unexpected connection as they race through each other’s fears, anxieties, and unfiltered truths before the party bus arrives. With sharp dialogue and intimate performances, the film explores modern womanhood, vulnerability, and the fleeting nature of female solidarity in chaotic social settings.

Shot in South Africa with a talented crew including DOP Tom Radford, 1st AD Alice de Beer, and Production Designer Andrico Goosen, the film was edited by Eva du Preez and features sound design by Kayly van Eyssen and color by Tom Radford. Script development was supported by advisors Daisy Rosato, Richard Rowley, and Mauricio Osaki.

Even Though I Ate The Cake was an official selection at the LA Independent Women Film Awards, marking a strong international debut for this offbeat and honest take on human connection.
