In 2019, Liese Kuhn was selected as one of 15 participants in the NFVF Female Filmmakers Program, a prestigious training and mentorship initiative aimed at nurturing emerging women directors in South Africa. Under the guidance of acclaimed script editor Tracey-Lee Rainers and award-winning director Lwazi Mvusi—known for her SAFTA-winning film Farewell Ella Bella and her popular Netflix series How to Ruin Christmas—Liese wrote and directed her debut short film, TWELVE. The 24-minute film is a reflective coming-of-age story set in a small South African town, exploring the emotional and social complexities of an early post-apartheid upbringing through the eyes of a young girl on the cusp of adolescence. TWELVE later premiered on Showmax, reaching a national audience and marking Liese’s first broadcast credit.
